Your Risks

Protecting Cash

The Cash Register

Your cash register should be anchored and hold minimal cash.  This should be communicated with signage so that the incentive to conduct an armed hold-up (or break & enter) is reduced.

Time Delay Safes: A Deterrent

Time delay safes cannot be opened ‘on request’.  They can also be linked to remote monitoring which will activate an alarm and notify of a crime in progress when access is attempted in a certain way.  Prominently displaying that they are used strengthens the deterrent.

Daily Banking

Bank takings daily if possible.  Vary your banking routine so that the pattern is not predictable.  Consider who is responsible for banking in your pharmacy and ensure that they are provided with basic training on personal safety when carrying out banking duties.  The use of professional cash carriers will minimise risk to staff.

Reconcile cash from registers throughout the day so that no staff member is required to count a large sum of cash at one time.  This should be done in a secure area out of public view. If cash is held overnight, a time delay and security-rated safe is recommended.
