Your Risks

Management of Electrical Goods

Pharmacies have a large power load and operate a range of electrical equipment.  There are inherent risks such as electrocution, fire (especially after hours), damage to equipment and flash burns.

  • All electrical equipment should be checked and tagged by a qualified electrical tradesperson at least every 12 months.
  • Turn off computers as they can cause electrical fires.  This risk is increased if ventilation around a computer is poor.
  • All outlets, equipment and your switchboard should be protected by Residual Current Devices (Safety Switches) which will respond to earth leakage.
  • Arrange for an electrician to conduct a thermographic scan of your switchboard to identify any faults/heat build up.  This may prevent an electrical problem which could result in a fire.
