Infection from body substances, mainly blood, is a potential risk where a pharmacy offers services such as piercing, blood glucose and cholesterol testing.
The community has a good level of awareness about blood borne disease, and the use of gloves and goggles is understood to be a normal practice. High standards are expected of pharmacy.
Written Procedure
Have a written procedure on infection control with training of all staff, particularly at induction. Topics to include:-
- Biological Hazard Isolation
- Personal Hygiene
- Immunisation
- Single Use Cups (Methadone)
- Disinfection
- Post Exposure Control
