Your Risks

Your Risks

Developed in conjunction with referring branches of the Australian Dental Association, 'Your Risks' is not prescriptive but a guide highlighting those areas that have the potential to result in a loss, and offering solutions that can reduce your exposure.

We trust that you will find this a useful resource in assessing your potential loss exposure from both an individual and dental practice perspective.

Keys to managing your risks

The dental profession, like all health services, is experiencing increased levels of litigation against its practitioners. Dental science is complex and its technologies continue to evolve. Patients have high expectations, tolerance of error is low and treatment can be expensive. These factors combine to create a "blame" culture when things go wrong or where a patient simply cannot afford to pay.

To assist practitioners and their staff to manage effectively in this context, Guild Insurance and referring branches of the Australian Dental Association have identified seven keys to identifying and managing risk.

  1. Know Your Risks
  2. Behavioural Risks
  3. Clinical Guide
  4. Occupational Health
  5. General Risks
  6. Support and communication
  7. Incident Management
