Know Your Risks
There are a range of different risks to manage in relation to your practice, for the sake of simplicity they have been categorised in to the following 4 broad categories.
PRACTICE RISKS
These are the risks arising directly from your professional practice and include claims for negligence and malpractice. Reducing these risks involves assessing documentation, diagnostics and referral.
EXTERNAL RISKS
Access areas to your practice are your responsibility. Slips and falls in your car park or walkways can easily occur and you have a duty of care to anybody accessing these areas.
INTERNAL RISK
It is your responsibility to make all areas within your practice safe. Floor surfaces, fixtures and fittings etc. must be kept in a safe condition to avoid causing harm to those accessing your practice.
GENERAL RISKS
These are the risks associated with the everyday running of your practice. They are significant and are often overlooked, including OH&S, financial risks, income protection, compliance, etc.
Managing risk is about more than just your professional care. It is about protecting your reputation, and ultimately your ability to be a successful chiropractor, health care provider and business operator.
