Your Risks

Occupational Health and Safety

This section of Riskequip provides some insight into occupational health and safety, its management, systems and specific hazards.  The legal obligation placed upon all employers under each of the occupational health and safety Acts throughout Australia, makes the management of the health and safety of centre staff an important risk to manage or the centre is also at risk.  When considering the working environment of a child care centre, a risk to staff may also present a health and safety risk to those in care,  or visitors to the centre. This adds weight to the benefit and also the need to manage health and safety risks beyond meeting regulatory compliance.

A point to consider before you proceed :

When it comes to minimising the risk of injury or illness in child care,  the skill has already been acquired, it is applied by centres every day to protect the children in their care. It’s the same approach that needs to be applied to protect the centre’s employees,  the management of which also needs to be demonstrated in documentation.
